Our Team.

MimeCure is an innovative pharmaceutical start-up built on pioneering research conducted at the Groningen Research Institute of Pharmacy, University of Groningen (NL). The discovery of molecules with potential therapeutic effects on COPD is the culmination of several years of intensive research at the university. Driven by close collaboration among leading scientists from diverse disciplines, our research team made significant strides in developing new medicines for COPD. Our work established an efficient research pipeline, from pre-clinical screening technologies to advanced formulation of bio-inspired molecules. Recognizing the potential of our discoveries, we have decided to spin out from the university and we founded MimeCure in April 2024, to advance these innovations into clinical solutions for COPD patients.

Luke van der Koog

Luke van der Koog is a director at MimeCure. He holds a Master’s degree in Pharmacy, graduating summa cum laude from the University of Groningen, and pursued a Ph.D. supported by a competitive scholarship from the Molecular Life and Health Program. His research focused on harnessing natural intercellular communication in the lung to develop regenerative therapies for COPD.

Erik Frijlink

Erik Frijlink is a director at MimeCure and has served as a professor of Pharmaceutical Technology and Biopharmacy at the University of Groningen since 1998. Before joining academia, he led the Pharmaceutical Development department at Solvay Pharmaceuticals. His research group is internationally recognized for pioneering advanced drug delivery technologies and has developed successful stabilization techniques for various biopharmaceuticals. Frijlink is also the co-inventor of over 20 patents, several of which have been successfully commercialized.
